Good afternoon, beautiful humans,

Today I want to talk about mental and emotional wellness.

Throughout my childhood, I was always a deeply sensitive and emotional person. I often absorbed the emotions of the people around me, sometimes so strongly that I could physically feel their stress, sadness, or joy within my own body. At the time, I didn’t understand why this was happening.

I simply knew that I cared deeply for others and felt a strong responsibility to make sure everyone around me was emotionally okay—sometimes even at the cost of my own wellbeing.

For many years, this created a quiet inner struggle. I was constantly trying to discern which emotions were truly mine and which ones I had unknowingly taken on from others.

Discovering the Word “Empath”

I had never heard the word empath until a memorable experience on a flight.

My friend and I were traveling to Panama when we found ourselves seated next to a fascinating and incredibly wise woman. We were young, curious, and eager to learn everything we could about the world and the people around us.

As we began talking with her, she shared the story of her life. She had once been blind and had later regained her sight. Listening to her speak felt almost surreal. I was completely captivated by her resilience and perspective.

Eventually our conversation shifted, and she began asking about our lives as well. She listened with such attentiveness and curiosity. At one point she looked at me and said she believed I might be an empath. She explained that I seemed to have a natural gift for understanding and caring for others’ emotions.

But she also gently reminded me that this gift can sometimes come with a burden, because feeling so deeply can make the world feel overwhelming.

That moment stayed with me long after the flight ended.

Learning What It Means to Be an Empath

After that conversation, I became fascinated with this new word I had discovered. I began researching what it meant to be an empath and trying to understand my own emotional experiences more clearly.

As I grew older and became more aware of my sensitivity to others’ emotions, it sometimes felt even harder to move through the world. I often felt responsible for the emotional energy around me and struggled with the idea that everything was somehow my fault.

Eventually I realized that this wasn’t a sustainable way to live.

I needed to understand my emotional world better.

A Book That Helped Me Understand Myself

During this period of self-discovery, I began searching for books that explored empathy and emotional awareness.

One book that deeply resonated with me was The Everyday Empath by Raven Digitalis.

As I started reading it, I found myself completely drawn in.

The book explained how being an empath can be both a gift and a challenge. It helped me understand that while empaths are naturally tuned in to the emotions of others, we can also unintentionally project emotions outward as well.

Reading it expanded my mental and social awareness in ways I hadn’t experienced before. It encouraged me to reflect more deeply on how I show up in the world, how I treat others, and how I care for my own emotional wellbeing.

Most importantly, it helped me begin building healthier emotional boundaries.

Why Emotional Wellness Is an Aesthetic

We often think of aesthetics as something visual—how we dress, how we decorate our homes, or how we curate the spaces around us.

But emotional wellness can be an aesthetic too.

When we learn to understand our emotions and respond to them with awareness rather than overwhelm, we begin to move through life with a sense of grounded confidence.

Building emotional boundaries is beautiful. It allows us to feel safe, secure, and aligned with our own energy while still caring deeply for others.

To me, emotional awareness is one of the most powerful forms of personal wellness.

When we understand why we feel what we feel—and when we learn how to navigate those emotions—we step into a deeper sense of personal power and self-trust.

A Path Toward Self-Discovery

Reading The Everyday Empath became one of the first meaningful steps I took toward understanding myself more fully.

It helped me appreciate my sensitivity instead of feeling burdened by it. It helped me learn how to protect my energy while still embracing the parts of myself that care so deeply about others.

Most importantly, it helped me walk through the world with more confidence in who I am.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the emotions around you or have wondered whether you might be an empath yourself, this book is a wonderful place to begin exploring that journey.

Self-awareness can be one of the most empowering forms of healing.
